Was looking for sauces on Iherb and come across this Kitchens of India, Paste for Butter Chicken Curry. You can shop for this Indian curry paste using the link above with my rewards code. It actually has really good reviews so i decided to try it and make it into a pasta sauce~ It turned out great! The spiciness level is quite mild so non-spicy lovers can actually try this as well. On top of that, it is really easy to make as well. :)

REVIEW: Good Cafe food in Singapore: Canopy Garden Dining at Bishan Park

So this is next on my AMK/BISHAN list of cafes that i wanted to come. The cafe is nearer to AMK swimming complex and is also behind the McDonalds. You can take bus 50 or 53 and alight at the bishan pk bus stop and walk straight in. As you can see the surroundings are full of foliage, no wonder they call themselves the Canopy Garden Dining.

Address: 1382 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, Bishan Park 2, 569931
Opening Hours: Mon - Thurs 9am - 10.30pm
Fri - Sat 9am - 11pm
Sun 8am - 10.30pm

I like that they have glass walls instead of concrete as this lets natural light in and is perfect for photos! As I enter the cafe, i was amazed by how spacious the place is. They even have an outdoor seating which is occupied by middle rock canopy bar and is operational at night. Expect an almost wooden interiors with wooden flooring, chairs, tables, and also the ceiling.

I ordered the lunch set which costs $18. It comes with pasta and their soup of the day. I think you can top up for drinks but i opted for a glass of water. I ordered the Crab meat aglio olio. It is essentially crabmeat, linguine, garlic, fresh herbs, chilli, olive oil, coriander & spring onion altogether. I like that the linguine is al dente and crab meat is superfluous.  The whole pasta dish is good and it provides the extra kick with the chili. Their soup of the day is delicious as well. You can clearly see how thick the soup is! Not the usual campbell soup yo~

You can probably go catch some pokemon at the park after your breakfast, lunch or dinner too.

Never really been to Canopy Garden Dining during the weekend... Made a second trip to this cafe as friend asked me to go there for lunch.
Saw this BURGER BENEDICT at their lunch menu. Seems interesting~

It has poached eggs grilled Angus patty, melted cheese,
bacon jam, pickles, shallots on sesame bun, served
with their signature homemade hollandaise sauce,
side with sesame fries & crispy anchovy. The Angus patty is so good!! juicy and yums! Fries with sesame and anchovy is lame! lol it does not make any difference at all.

REVIEW: Good hawker food in Singapore: Ang Mo Kio Fried Kway Teow and Lai Heng Fried Kway Teow

This particular hawker store was one of the top rated foods from www.singaporebestfood.com in 2017. I did come to the right place! On top of that, this store was also on a couple of famous food bloggers list of CKT store to visit! Good to visit and indulge in hawker fare sometimes instead of cafe food. :) There are plenty of good and cheap hawker food in Singapore.

I knew i would love it as i like my fried hokkien mee moist. This one was similar, albeit slightly wetter and is coated in oil as you can see. It is not clumpy as well. I like how there are more pork lard and cockles in this plate. Definitely having wet dreams after this. lol

Address: Ang Mo Kio Central Food Centre Blk 724 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 Singapore 560724,
Opening Hours: 11am - 7pm daily

And then i also visited Lai Heng Fried Kway Teow which is at Shunfu Mart Food Centre. You can walk there from Marymount circle line MRT station. This one was not as flavorful, but also not too bad la. I think that is because they use vegetable oil instead of pork lard. They serve me this plate like damn fast. Lol I am very sure they pre cook one. 😒

Address: Shunfu Mart, 320 Shunfu Road #02-20 Singapore 570320
Opening Hours: Tues - Sunday 11am to 8pm
Closed Monday

REVIEW: Good cafe food in singapore : La Ristrettos At Novena Medical Centre and Marco Marco at Novena Square

As mentioned in my previous blog post (here) that this good cafe is a hidden gem in Novena as it is located at Level 8 of the Novena Medical Centre. Unless you do some research, i doubt anyone would even explore the medical centre? Anyways, i made a visit to this cafe for coffee since i was nearby at Marco Marco which i will write after this.

Address: 10 Sinaran Drive #08-37 Novena Medical Centre Singapore 307506
Opening Hours: Mon - Fri 8am - 6pm
Sat 8am - 2pm
Closed on Sunday

Here's a good cup of coffee that i ordered with a heart coffee art. I also ordered the Spiced apple tart($8.00). It consists of Cinnamon apple and raisins hidden underneath crispy pastry with ice cream on top. The ice cream melted fast thus making everything soggy though~ but it is still quite nice!

Marco Marco stands for fresh-casual, high quality Italian Cuisine with a global taste.  It is inspired by by tthe idea of Italy and the World Marco Polo - who explored the World from Italy. I think that is also why they have dishes such as The Roma ($12.00), The Singapore - prawns and beancurd in laksa cream ($14.00) and The Kyoto - cold soba with tuna and avocado ($15.00). You can also guess that Each dish is named after the City which inspired its taste. It is the same for their paninis and pizzas.

Address: Novena Square #02-26/27, Singapore 307683
Opening Hours: 9:30am-9pm Daily

Alot of mixed reviews about this dish though. The Roma is a Classic creamless carbonara bacon, parmesan, egg yolk pasta. Although this is not your ordinary creamy carbonara pasta, but then this is also quite good! Carbonara is essentially just Parmesan and egg, so Just break the egg yolk in the middle and enjoy~ I am not sure how to describe but it is well-cooked pasta that has a very rich taste.
Although this one is double the price of the pasta i had at once upon a thyme, i still think this is quite affordable in terms of price.

REVIEW: Good cafe in Singapore - Noshery at Nosh at Rochester Park and Once upon a thyme at The Central

Dropped by Noshery at Nosh cafe for lunch after one of my dental appointments. I tend to take one day off whenever i need to go see the dentist for my braces. Yes, i am still soldiering on despite having the pain and ulcers and all, but as it goes on, you will get lesser of those, so it is kind of bearable as of now. Anyways, look at that huge NOSH signage among the greenery! Very welcoming indeed.

Green house is their outdoor dining. Noshery is like their cafe that opens in the day. Country kitchen is for private events.

The main reason i am visiting is because i want to check out Noshery. I ordered the Shrimp Laksa Tagliatelle which costs $19. Pasta with an asian twist! 🍝 ⠀
It is somewhat like a dry laksa. There are even pieces of small cripsy tau pok in it. Who knew spicy succulent prawns 🍤 and laksa pesto can make a pasta dish so yummy! :)

Address: 9 Rochester Park 139220

Noshery: Tuesday - Friday
11.30am - 4pm
Weekends
10.30am - 6pm

Greenhouse: Dinner
Tuesday - Sunday
6pm - 10.30pm* (Extended until 11pm on Friday & Saturday)
Weekend Brunch
Saturday & Sunday
10.30am - 3pm

I came here when i went to collect my prescribed shades. They have 2 outlets, one is in Square 2 and the other one is at The Central. It is basically really really affordable pasta dishes in a shopping centre. Expect their pasta dishes to cost from $6 - $8.50. Its like a good place to visit during lunch time. Where can you find a good cafe that sell pasta this cheap? lol

Address: 10 Sinaran Drive, Square 2, #B1-120/124, Singapore 307506
Opening Hours: Mon - Sun 11:00 am to 8:30 pm

I had the vegetarian tomato spaghetti. It has Sautéed mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and green peas with al dente spaghetti in tomato sauce. Just a simple, cheap and good meal which is really satisfying.

REVIEW: Good Cafe food in Singapore: Lepark at Chinatown and Niche Savoureuse at Toa Payoh

They're having an event at the inner part of the cafe~ then we saw a PAP MP walking out soon after.
Anyways it is nice to finally meet up with my friend to have some nice dinner at this place. Not sure why it's Lepark, because people normally say lepak instead, or probably it's a pun because it's at people's park? It is situated at the former car park of the People’s Park Complex. You can get up from a spiral staircase at level 5. If you're unsure, just spot this orange green building from afar.

You order drinks and food from different counters. You also collect your own food when the buzzer buzzes. It also seems like they have more alcohol drinks as compared to non-alcohol drinks. Most of the drinks are pricey and they're priced $10 and above. You can expect unique Tapas like Poached chicken sushi($8) and Thai basil pork with stuffed tau pok($8). You can also eat mains like the Slipper Lobster and crab meat tom yum pasta which costs $18 and Wagyu beef burger at $22.

We ordered the Slipper Lobster and crab meat tom yum pasta, truffle fries with truffle mayo and the other one i forgot what it is called.. it is some beef ball in some sauce. I especially loved the pasta! It's not really spicy but flavorful and the pasta is al dente too. PS Slipper Lobster looks more like crayfish. The truffle fries and beef balls are not that impressive, esp the truffle fries where we hardly taste any truffle. lol Despite all these, all in all it is a good place to chill and just lepak with friends. :)

Address: 1 Park Road Level 6
People’s Park Complex
Singapore 059108
Opening hours: Tues - Thurs 4pm - 11pm
Fri 4pm - 12am
Sat 11am - 12am
Sun 11am - 11pm

Was surprised that Niche Savoureuse cafe has new food items!! YAY! This is one of the cafes that i frequent for breakkfast during the weekends. This feels so much like brunch though. Skipping breakfast just for that fancy all day breakfast to be eaten during lunch time. oh well~ if it's makes me happy, why not?

We had the All Day Breakfast! Scrambled Eggs, Smoked Sausage, Bacon, Shrooms & a slice of Toasted Pannetone Sweetbread made fr Natural Yeast. The scrambled eggs were creamy but lack any significant taste at all. The Toasted Pannetone Sweetbread was nice though. I like the robust sweet flavor.

the REAL deal lasagne - minced pork loin slow cooked in a tomato & mushroom red wine sauce; layered with béchamel, mozzarella & parmesan. Absolutely absolutely yummy! ^^v

You can refer to my previous post here.

REVIEW: Good Hawker food in Bishan/Ang mo kio Singapore - Ding Ji Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles at and Eng Ho Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee

How nice to indulge in good hawker food sometimes as compared to spending lots of money at cafes, the food is also equally good and tasty. I first saw this at https://www.misstamchiak.com so i decided to go try it too~ since it is kind of near. I am at Toa Payoh and this store is at Bishan even though it is kind of out of the way as need to take bus.

Anyways i have never seen a Bak Chor Mee store that has this fish maw soup option. I think we can all say that the most common ones are probably those bcm that comes with a small mini wok which we also refer to it as 小碗面. Ding Ji Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles serves the soup in a bowl that comes with alot of ingredients. The star of the soup would be the fish maw! There's also sliced pork, dried sole fish, minced meat, egg and dumpling. Read on misstamjiak that the soup base is simmered overnight to get all the goodness from the pork bones! No wonder it is so good. :)  The springy mee kia is tossed in vinegar, lard oil and mushrooms. This kinds of reminds me of Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodles.

I also had it on an evening without much queue. There is just 1 guy in front of me.

Address: Blk 284, Bishan Street 22, Singapore 570284
Opening Hours: 24/7

Had this Eng Ho Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee(荣和炒福建虾面) on another day! This one is located at Ang Mo Kio. Also had to take a bus ride to get there. I actually came here once, but it was closed so i had something else~ The soup was made using wild sea prawn, pork and squid.

The moist noodles soaked up all the goodness of the soup, thus making it extra yummy! I also like my noodles moist as well. What is pity about this is despite the yumminess, the noodles does taste a tad salty. Nonetheless, it was worth the try and i would recommend people to go for this if they live nearby.

REVIEW: Good Cafe food in Singapore - The Workbench Bistro at Ang Mo Kio

Wanted to visit more cafes in the Ang Mo Kio in the afternoon after my dental appointment! So I have been to Rainbow Cottage already. The Workbench is next on my list! I think this may be the cafe that is nearest to the MRT Station. It is rather quiet although it is lunch time.

The cafe is quite spacious with alfresco seating outside. I feel that the cafe is quite 'empty'? There is not much decor around the cafe. Very simplistic and industrial with grey cement wall and concrete flooring . There isn't even anything on the table. Not sure if this is wise on the long run. They could at least put some flowers or what on their table?

Also not sure how they derive this name. Definitely quiet enough for people to work though. Would be even better if they had free WIFI.

Address: Blk 332 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1, #01-1881 Singapore 560332
Opening Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 12pm to 10pm
Sunday 10am to 10pm
Closed on Monday

Apart from some dishes such as Beef Lasagna(SGD $11.00), Carbonara(SGD$14.00) and Crab Meat Linguine(SGD $16.00), the cafe serves waffles, ice creams and various beverages(coffee and tea).

I ordered the beef burger(SGD $14.00). It comes with a generous serving of paprika fries. Although the beef patty is moist and nice, the surface is burnt though. The burnt portion is covered by the cheese. >_>

Ate this Salted Egg Chicken Pasta with crispy Chicken Chop($15.90) today. The linguine is al dente but i feel that the chili padi is kind of overpowering the saltiness of the salted egg yolk sauce? The chicken cutlet was crispy and nice though.

GUIDE: Good cafes in Novena and Newton to visit in Singapore

1) Les Ristrettos at Novena Medical Centre

This cafe is a hidden gem located at Level 8 of Novena Medical Centre. I mean you won't know about this cafe unless you did some research on cafes in Novena or you're there to see a specialist doctor? Right?

They have limited indoor seating so I chosen to sit outside. Don't worry as the seating outside is sheltered! Still feel the heat though!

Address: 10 Sinaran Drive #08-37 Novena Medical Centre Singapore 307506
Opening Hours: Mon - Fri 8am - 6pm
Sat 8am - 2pm
Closed on Sunday

2) Joe & Dough Cafe at Square 2

Joe & Dough was founded in 2009 with the dream to deliver the best coffee and sandwich experience to many people. It is another one of the cafes that i visited recently with free WIFI! I think i can have another list of wifi cafes already. They are also frequented by office workers nearby as well.

Anyways, Joe and Dough is known for their coffee and gourmet sandwiches. Their coffee comes from the best quality Arabica beans. They also serves cakes and all-day breakfasts.

Address: SQUARE 2, 10 Sinaran Drive #01-156
Singapore 307506
Opening Hours: Monday - Sunday: 8.00am - 9.30pm

3) Take 2 Cafe at Novena

Take 2 Cafe is sells local old school delights in a hipster setting. The menu consists of local food such as Mee Hoon Kway, Lor Mee and Nasi Lemak. It is basically hawker food in a much atas setting. :) Just make your order at the counter and collect once it is ready.

Address: 159 Thomson Road
Goldhill Centre, Thomson Road, Novena (NS20), Central, Singapore 307612,
Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday 8.00am to 8.00pm

4) Craftsmen Specialty Coffee at Novena

My friend wanted to meet me for dinner the other day so i suggested this cafe called Craftsmen Specialty Coffee which is located at Novena. It's situated beside United Square and also  near to Udders. It was a weekday night but the cafe isn't crowded at that time. I think it must be because of the location and also the time i went there to eat. I was there around 7pm.

Address: 173 Thomson Rd, 307623
Opening Hours: Sunday - Thursday 8am - 9pm
Friday - Saturday 8am - 10.30pm

5) The Clueless Goat at Novena

Visited this cafe for breakfast when i had my off day. Had to go for a dental appointment straight after this. Not sure what kind of theme they had going on in the cafe with that 'name' and also it is not really spacious. They also do not accept NETS/credit card payment so i had to go somewhere else to withdraw cash. Oh well.. i didn't have enough cash with me. Anyways, besides that i find that they had really affordable pricing for their food.

You can order usual brunch items like Ranchers Eggs for $8 and Eggs Benedict for $11.80.

Address: 189 Thomson Rd, Singapore 307631
Opening Hours: Tues - Thurs & Sun 8am - 6pm
Fri - Sat 8am - 9pm

6) Professor Brawn Cafe at Novena

Business with a Cause – when you dine at our café you are supporting Social Enterprises like us to fulfil a social mission of providing employment & social integration opportunities to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

I feel like it's quite meaningful that they hire people with disabilities and provide them with opportunities. This is a very good rehabilitation for them as they can interact with people and to show them they can live normally. :)
                                                                                  Address: 238 Thomson Rd, 02-78/79, Novena   Square, Velocity@Novena, 307683
  Opening Hours: 11.30am - 9.30pm daily

7) Kitchenette at Novena

Decided to continue my novena/newton food hunt, so i came to Kitchenette for lunch. It's a bottleshop, bakery and bistrot in one. First impression of the place is that it is rather small and dark with minimal lighting and there's a full wall of bottles of wine. Guess people can come at night for a drink or something since they close at 10pm. Their staffs were friendly and attentive but waiting for food is rather long. Do note that they only accept cash or masters/visa. No nets.

Address: 1 Goldhill Plaza, Singapore 308899
Opening Hours: 8:30am - 10pm daily

8) Memento Patisserie Cafe at Newton, Carnhill Community Club

Went to menmento patisserie cafe for desert and also to leech on their free WIFI. Turns out that they do not have their own WIFI but then you can log on to wireless@SG. The cafe is rather quiet after lunch hours with random om/ol popping by for deserts and coffee. Skiving during working hours?

The cafe is super spacious and they have put up simple decorations to spiced up their space. While it is a an ideal place to work on your assignments or study. they could have more food varieties and desert options for people to choose from.

Address: Carnhill Community Club, 1 Anthony Rd, Singapore 229944
Opening Hours: 10am - 8pm daily

9) Now Noodles+ at Novena Square 2

Since the social media is raving about the mee tai mak with century egg, i have decided to drop by now noodles+ to try it out! Now Noodles+ is located at square 2.

The mee tai mak is well-cooked but i felt that the spiciness is too overpowering. It is like all i'm tasting is the chili. It does provide that extra kick for chili lovers but it's a no-no for me as i can't handle food that is too spicy! And it tastes the same with or without the century egg. lol It is also super overpriced at $9.80. They also offer dry mee siam, vegetarian mee goreng and heng hwa noodle soup at the same price.

Address: #02-65 Square 2, 10 Sinaran Drive, 307506, Square 2, 307506
Opening Hours: 11am - 9pm daily
