GUIDE: 7 Good Cafes to visit in Toa Payoh/Braddell Singapore

Toa Payoh is located in the northern part of the Central Region of Singapore. I have lived in Toa Payoh my whole life and with the cafe culture booming, there have been more cafes opening up in Toa Payoh. Here's 7 cafes that I have visited so far and think you should go to. Click on the cafe link to go to my review on that cafe.

1) The Daily Press cafe

Address: 126 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 #01-561 Singapore 310126
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30am to 9:30pm

One would not know that this is a cafe upon hearing the name. It sounds more like a publishing company, but actually it is because their sandwiches are prepared from their sandwich press machine. Some of their unique highlights includes Peranakan inspired Babi Pongteh Sandwich ($12), Korean inspired Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich ($12) and Beef ragu pasta(?). Although they have free wifi, but i feel like this place is not conducive for students, would rather enjoy their food than notes.

2) Shrove Tuesday Revisit

Address: Block 94 Toa Payoh Lorong 4 #01-32 Singapore 310094
Opening Hours: Sunday - Thursday : 10am - 10pm
                             Friday & Saturday : 10am - 11pm

And again with the weird name! Shrove Tuesday is a cafe that sells mainly pastries, waffles and coffees. Pastries price ranges from $3.50 - $8.00. I have tried their rainbow cake and rainbow kueh lapis before. Definitely very Instagram worthy!

3) The Little Prince Cafe

Address: Lor 6 Toa Payoh Blk 47 #01-134 Singapore 310047
Opening hours: Sun-Mon, Wed-Thurs - 12pm – 10pm
                          Fri-Sat - 12pm – 11pm
                          Closed Tues

The Little Prince Cafe is a small ice cream cafe tucked at a corner in the Toa Payoh Neighborhood. As the name suggest, the cafe is themed according to this childhood classic story. Despite being the furthest cafe from the MRT Station, they are able to draw in neighborhood crowds.

4) The Dream Cafe

Address: Blk 163, Toa Payoh Lorong 1, #01-1016
Singapore 310163
Opening Hours: Mon to Sun: 1pm – 10:30pm

The Dream Cafe was an unexpected find. I guess this place must be popular among students with their close vicinity to a few nearby schools. They offer free wifi too, along with student promotions. Although I did ask them about this, but they say there aren't any at the moment. Oh well.

5) The Studio Cafe

Address: Blk 47 Toa Payoh Lorong 6
#01-131 Singapore 310047
Opening hours: Monday - 12pm - 10pm
Tuesday - Sunday - 9am - 11pm

Studio Cafe is a halal cafe in Toa Payoh. They sell mainly local Malay and some western food. The cafe is spacious with indoor and outdoor seating with no air condition. The food here are reasonably priced as well.

6) Creamier

Address: 128 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 #01-835
Opening Hours: Monday - Closed
Tuesday - Thursday & Sunday - 12pm - 10pm
Friday - Saturday - 12pm - 11pm

Creamier is undoubtedly the most crowded cafe among many in Toa Payoh. I was quite hesitant to visit as it is always so packed full of people. It is located at Toa Payoh and is walk-able distance from Braddell MRT Station. Their menu consists of ice cream, waffles and beverages(coffee and tea). It is not wise to sit for long and chill over coffee here as there may be people waiting for seats.

7) JQ Chef Cafe

Address: 186 Toa Payoh Central, 310186
Opening Hours: 11.30am - 10pm Everyday

JQ Chef Cafe is relatively new in the Toa Payoh Area. They took over this space from Les Patisserie. JQ Chef is essentially the chef's name Johnny Quek who is the ex-chef of  World’s First Full Butler Sky Dining at Singapore Flyer.

I find that the cafe is not really inviting with the extremely dim lighting. Picture below is edited brighter using Photoshop. Not really nice for cafe hoppers who are hoping to take the best picture of their food.

The cafe serves deserts, drinks, mains and pasta and they do not deviate much from the predecessor. Not sure if they're busy during lunch hour but it is kind of empty during dinner time. Their menu was kind of meh as they serve ordinary food such as Mixed Grill (SGD $20.90), Carbonara (SGD $12.90) and Chicken Lasagna (SGD $13.90) but the food wasn't bad at all. Yummy Western food at a slightly affordable price.
